Can dogs eat almond milk?
The full picture
Almond milk is made from almonds and water, so technically it doesn't carry the dairy lactose problem. A small amount of plain, unsweetened almond milk is usually fine for dogs. The real concern is sweetened varieties: many low-sugar or flavoured almond milks contain xylitol, which is lethal. Always check the label. Almond milk also has no real nutritional value for dogs — it's essentially flavoured water. Skip vanilla, chocolate, or flavoured versions.
Risks to watch for
- Xylitol in sweetened versions
- Almond oil content can upset some stomachs
- Sugar in flavoured versions
Safe portion size
A splash of plain unsweetened almond milk as a rare treat. Water is better.
Safer alternatives
- Water
- A small amount of plain oat milk
